In the Year of Czech Music, celebrating Janácek (1854) and Dvorák (1904), the Director of the Czech Centre, London, has described the 2004 Leamington Festival as probably the world’s biggest and most extensive festival of Czech music outside the Czech Republic.
Thursday 6 May is Terezín Day, and includes four concerts, featuring works by Viktor Ullmann, Hans Krasa and Pavel Haas amongst others. Concerts took place at the Warwick Arts Centre.

Prelude for Solo Piano – World Premiere
Frank Harders Wuthenow, Head of Contemporary Music at Boosey and Hawkes Berlin, has only very recently discovered this unknown work of Laks in Warsaw. Jacqueline Bowen Cole believes the work to date from his days as a student of composition at Warsaw Conservatoire in the early 1920s.

Dioneo presents Viktor Ullmann’s dramatic take on the events of the Second World War and the horrors it exposed. Performances will take place on the 5th, 6th, 8th and 9th April 2011 in advance of a run at the Arcola Theatre as part of the Grimeborn Festival in August.
